About The RECOVER Project

Mission Statement

The RECOVER Project is a welcoming community that supports substance use recovery by sharing the wisdom of our lived experience. We strive to create conditions for a safe environment. We seek to strengthen our community by encouraging full participation. Through advocacy and connection, we overcome barriers and promote the reality that recovery is possible for all.

The RECOVER Project, located in Greenfield, Massachusetts, is one of 39 Recovery Support Centers funded by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (BSAS). Since opening in 2003, we have been building a vibrant recovery community grounded in the belief that people can and do recover. Through peer-led support, education, advocacy, and community engagement, we continue to expand opportunities for individuals and families affected by substance use.

Our work is rooted in the understanding that lived experience is a source of wisdom, strength, and hope. We provide trauma-informed, peer-based supports that create a welcoming environment where people can build healthy relationships, discover new interests, develop life and leadership skills, and connect with a supportive recovery community. Through educational programs, volunteer opportunities, social activities, wellness offerings, and recovery coaching, participants find opportunities to both give and receive support while strengthening their recovery and reducing isolation.

The RECOVER Project has also played a pioneering role in the peer recovery movement. Our member-created guide, From the Ground Up: How to Build Your Own Peer Recovery Center, has helped inspire and inform peer recovery initiatives across Massachusetts and beyond. You can view the manual here.

Our vision is a community where recovery is visible, valued, and supported at every level. We work to build a network of recovery-informed individuals, organizations, and systems that reduce stigma, remove barriers, and create pathways to healing and belonging. Whether someone is seeking support for the first time, maintaining long-term recovery, supporting a loved one, or exploring change, The RECOVER Project offers hope, connection, and opportunity.

Participate. Grow. RECOVER.
